At three , you tried to teach me to read
Looking back at it today,
I learn patience.
At eight, you tried to teach me manners,
Looking back at it today,
I learn kindness.
At thirteen you tried to reason with me,
Looking back at it today,
I learn empathy.
At twenty, you pushed me to spread my wings,
Looking back at it today,
I learn selfless love.
At forty, I look at the dusty pictures
looking back at them
I learn what it’s like to be you.
