Promised

image

He never promised her a fairy tale,
He never promised roses and poems.

She wanted him around, no matter what he said,
Without him, her heart just felt dead.

He had never promised her the stars and the moon,
He thought love was a myth, she would see it soon.

She wanted to romanticise their whole story,
The pain, the tears, love and all its glory.

He had promised to stay by her side,
From the folly of love, he always did hide.

She thought she would one day break the walls,
The dream broke badly, when reality did call.

He is gone now, he never promised otherwise,
She had willingly chosen to shut her eyes.

He was her shade, and now he’s gone,
Like a lost traveller, she is now all alone.

She wants to blame him, but she knows she shouldn’t,

He never promised to love her, he knew he couldn’t.

She has lost him maybe, though he wasn’t hers to keep,
The magic existed only in her dreams and her sleep.

Their story never did start,
Because he never did have a heart.
And now neither does she.

This romance stuff… it’s all perception anyway isn’t it?

‘He is gone now, he never promised otherwise,
She had willingly chosen to shut her eyes.

She wants to blame him, but she knows she shouldn’t,

He never promised to love her, he knew he couldn’t.’

I would suggest she was always a lost traveler.
    Great poem though.
